Aussie Farmers Direct says the launch of The General Store in Western Australia means shoppers in the state now have an online-grocery alternative.
The General Store is an online-only supermarket developed by the team behind Aussie Farmers Direct, carrying more than 4,000 of Australia’s grocery brands. It claims to offer low prices, regular specials and ‘bulk buys’ not available in supermarkets.
The extensive range includes various grocery brands from businesses based in WA, including Anchor Foods.
Aussie Farmers Direct CEO Brendan Shaw says the online retailer made sure The General Store carried a significant representation of grocery brands from Western Australia.
“Offering an additional distribution channel for local businesses and giving them priority over imported products – which often out-price them on supermarket shelves – means we’re able to support local trade and help promote their business,” he said.
“We’ve also extended this ability to support local businesses to the Aussie Farmers Direct range. For the first time, customers can now select produce that has been made or grown in Western Australia via a dedicated WA category within our online store.”
Mr Shaw says The General Store offers shoppers a genuine alternative to the major supermarkets – providing real value to consumers.
The General Store has also introduced a ‘price promise’, claiming it saves customers time and money in finding their favourite products at low prices.
“We’ve done the hard work for our customers with our price promise,” Mr Shaw said. “Each week we compare the online prices of hundreds of products from major supermarkets and match their lowest online prices.”
He adds that The General Store remains true to the strong social purpose behind Aussie Farmers Direct, offering customers much greater transparency about the origin of products sold.
The WA launch of The General Store is the next stage of a planned national store rollout, following its “successful debut” along the eastern seaboard.
The General Store is available through the existing Aussie Farmers Direct website.
